A dance of love…. In the middle of Colorado’s 3 hour snowstorm. ❄️

Clouds came in quickly and we got a random snow dump in the middle of the afternoon on Friday. The Osprey stopped diving when the visibility diminished, so we quickly drove across Longmont to see what the avocets were doing in the beautiful snow. They were definitely busy. It was hilarious and a bit romantic at the same time. Definitely melted my heart, which was good because I was way underdressed for the snow.

Bird dance moves… upgraded to sparkle mode. ✨

On our morning drives in India, we’d hear the peacocks before we saw them. Then suddenly… this….

Watching them practice over and over in solitude with precision and intensity was unreal. And then the performance… feathers up, moves getting bigger, more dramatic, all while hoping for the love of a peahen.

We saw plenty of rejections. Which just meant… more practice. And they would keep at it. Head high and feathers out.

Absolute sparkly legend.

My newest dance move is definitely inspired by this Fish Owl we saw taking a bath in India. I know the woodcock has some serious moves, but what do you think about these? 💃 ❤️

I am actually really excited to have gotten this footage. This owl was far…really far… and there was a ton of fog (filming with long lenses through a ton of fog definitely makes it challenging to get detail). So far we had trouble showing others in my vehicle where it was (even with binoculars). I am shocked that I was able to record its moves.

Beautiful morning today!

Just a couple of weeks ago in India, I watched my naturalist almost in tears seeing her first Osprey. It was a lifer for her (a birders term for seeing a species for the first time).

It was so beautiful to witness her excitement, it almost made me cry. While they are not often seen where we were in India, they are something I see often at home. It was a reminder to not take things for granted, and to keep looking for the extraordinary in what feels familiar.

Something about the shoulders and backs of tigers fascinates me. Shoulders built for a graceful and quiet power. From stalking to launch. Adorned with patterns that have evolved to disrupt prey from detecting predators in their lush surroundings. A soft and silent power demonstrated in shape and texture. ❤️

Totally lost in the eyes of the tiger. ❤️

I just got home from leading a tiger photography adventure with two of my favorite and most inspiring humans, @tamaralackey and @photosuban. While I am missing the wildlife, I am also really missing the humans that I got to experience this magic with. Such a great group with so many stories and tons of laughter.

A bit about our team, Mark is an absolute legend and someone who has personally helped change my life. Tamara does not just love wildlife. She actively fights to protect animals and the planet we all share. Our head naturalist @shaikshaheen13 (with @pugdundeesafaris) recently won Naturalist of the Year for Nepal and India. Her passion is contagious and her depth of knowledge feels endless.

Honestly, this was a dream team.

We laughed so much on this trip and I cannot stop smiling thinking about it. Seriously sooo much fun!

I am back home from an incredible trip to India.

Yes tigers are beyond anything I can put into words. But when asked about my favorite wildlife moments on my trip, I go back to these weaver ants. Yes… ants… hear me out.

At the end of our first day on our Tiger safari we stopped to admire the Weaver Ants nests. They were hard at work making their home by weaving together leaves using their silk. We saw the very first leaf get bent for a new nest. They use complex building techniques, that I learned later is often referred to as a “force ratchet” system, pushing and pulling each other bodies while other anchor.

Looking through my camera, my jaw dropped. These tiny weaver ants join forces, weaving leaves together with remarkable teamwork and architectural skill to build their home. It is complex engineering carried out by beings so small, that I will admit… I am completely guilty of overlooking.

One of nature’s many jewels 💎 ❤️

After a bathroom stop in Tadoba National Park in India, I found this beauty right outside the toilets. I was instantly on the floor with my friend and amazing naturalist @shaikshaheen13 admiring all its colors and patterns. Tourists walked around me, laughing a bit, they were there for the tigers after all.

A quiet reminder that while yes the big cats are amazing…. nature has so much beauty that is truly all around…. And some random people have photos of me rolling around outside of the toilets :). Yes they did ask first to take my photo and if it made them laugh, that makes me happy. One day hopefully that photo will turn up…

Light breezes opened pockets of light in the thick forest of Nepal. Speckled light danced through the leaves, briefly illuminating the colorful tail of this endangered red panda. A bright splash of red in the surrounding green as we watched this little creature doze off to hopefully a beautiful forest dream.

These brief encounters are such a gift. Scientists estimate that only around 2,500 Red Pandas exist. To be able to see one in the wild is such a gift. I feel like my heart grew the moment I saw them and I may have cried.
