I’ve been soaking up all this sunshine... and so are the butterflies! ☀️🦋

Took a trip to the butterfly garden in Denver with a dear friend, and wow… photographing butterflies in flight is pure magic. I was going for a dreamy feel, so I shot wide open at f/1.8 with my @nikonusa Z9 and the Nikkor Z 135 Plena lens, using bird-in-flight autofocus to track these magical creatures midair.

There’s something so joyful about watching these delicate beings float through the air with all the amazing color and pattern on them and the flowers around.

I got to spend some time with a dragon over the weekend. 🐉 ♥️

When looking through my Nikon Z9 and NIKKOR z 105mm macro at this little horned lizard, I was transported to a place filled with magic and dragons. This tiny creature stayed incredibly still, and this image is the result of a 100-image focus stack to capture all of its glorious details.

Fun fact: horned lizards can squirt blood from their eyes as a defense mechanism…yes, you read that right. Nature is wild.

Lazy cat vibes… but make it tiger. I love this floppy tongue.

Big cats love a good yawn. But here’s something wild: a tiger’s tongue is covered in tiny, backward-facing spines called papillae—so rough they can strip fur and even flesh from bone. Nature’s built-in grooming (and feasting) tool!

This yawn was filmed on the @nikonusa Z9 in 8K at 60fps. I like filming in 8k so I can crop and see every curl and detail of this incredible tongue.

Even at just around a year old, these “cubs” are already massive—nearly the size of their mother, who sits nearby.

What struck me most in this moment wasn’t just their scale, but their bond. The way the mother stayed close, the way they greeted her by rubbing faces, and the way they just lounged together in the water as bits of light fell through the thick forest occasionally hitting their faces. ⁠

Tigers are fierce, but also deeply nurturing. A mother tiger will raise her cubs alone, teaching them to hunt and to survive. During this time, they share a closeness that’s nothing short of sacred.⁠

Just got back from safari in India… and instead of kicking things off with a tiger, here’s a wasp.

Not just any wasp—this dazzling Blue Mud Dauber crashed our picnic breakfast and totally put me at awe. Turns out, they’re important pollinators (so yes, they work hard and dress well).

What blew me away most was that I’d never even heard of this species before seeing it. That moment…when something completely new in nature stops you in your tracks…is pure magic. The second shot has a shoe print to help illustrate its tiny size.

Diving into the cosmos of the sea—where birds swim like shooting stars and sharks glide like shadows. ✨ 🦈

Watching the gannets and cormorants dive at crazy speeds into the ocean to feed on the sardine bait balls while sharks circled around was beyond anything I could ever dream of. The power of their dive—so fast, so fierce—sometimes ending in tragedy, as their bodies hit the water so fast it took their lives. It is a full on commitment, and the speed and sound of these incredible birds will echo in my memory forever.

Yesterday I posted a gorilla’s nose, today the silverback’s toes.

The nose was from a mother in the group, today I wanted to celebrate the details on the father. While this giant and gentle fellow laid back relaxing, his toes curled. Yesterday I posted a gorilla’s nose, today the silverback’s toes.

The nose was from a mother in the group, today I wanted to celebrate the details on the father. While this giant and gentle fellow laid back relaxing, his toes curled. I could feel emotion in the curl and connection in the prints. Just like us the fingerprints and toe prints are unique. This beautiful male is truly one of a kind.

So excited to be returning to East Africa! We are about to land in Uganda for our next adventure. With 28 hours of travel and only 2 more to go I figured a few giant yawns would be perfect. Seeing the way that lion’s ear launched that fly from buzz to infinity is absolutely crazy.

Millions of bee-eaters filled the sky as the sunset on our first full day out at Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Their wings backlit against the setting sun filled the sky with sparkling gold. For a moment I felt like the richest person in the world surrounded in gold beyond my dreams.

I can’t look at this footage without tearing up from how much nature totally overwhelmed me in that moment. It was truly sublime.

For me today is all about reflections and what a wild ride 2024 has been. With my background in mathematics, I love pattern mixing, shapes, chaos and just having fun. Making this made me feel like a kid again with my spin art paint kit, it felt fitting as I reflect today.

It was truly a roller coaster of a year with some of my biggest highs and some of my biggest lows. As I finish my year I am full of gratitude and a bit of pride in myself through this crazy year.

What are you most proud of from 2024?

2024 was a year in which I worked hard on myself, both my physical and mental health. I took less work, changed my eating and drinking habits (drastically), worked hard on my first book, and focused spending time with my husband and dog in Colorado. Even though it was a hard year, I am super proud that I took care of myself and am now refreshed and ready for another year of craziness and adventures!

I am super thankful for each and everyone of you, who has taken time to like, comment, share and support me throughout this year! No matter how small these little things may seem, they mean a lot and always brighten my day. I wish you all a healthy and happy 2025!

We sat for ages together in the snow and right as the last bit of light hid behind the horizon, it lifted its head, gave a yawn, then fell right back asleep. Such a powerful moment.

As the lake starts to ice over I love watching the eagles land and test the freezing surface. In the second image you can see the juvenile bald eagle’s talon. These sharp claws sit on four muscular toes and are designed for carrying prey in flight (and to cut through scales). When they strike the ice sometimes you can see it break into pieces. Such fascinating and amazing animals.

I went back to see the eagles again today, it was amazing! Totally different behavior, which is one of the many reasons I love wildlife. You never know what you will see!

As the polar bears wait for the sea ice to roll in (which is when they are able to hunt and feast on seals), they are seen visiting town as well as the local temporary “dump”. Today I give my thanks that we live in a world with Polar Bears and wish them all the best in their upcoming hunting season.

Moments like these are so beyond beautiful, I have no words. Everyone around watching was silent and when mom and cubs eventually walked off and towards to ocean, lots of hugs, high fives and maybe a few tears.

I had my @nikonusa #z9 and my #nikkorz800mmf63vrs which was too tight to get the whole scene. So I decided to focus on the details, the touches and the snow on the butts. I shot it in 8k NRaw and was able to crop in and see so much detail and show the color (even through the falling snow). The 8k allowed me to stabilize (I didn’t have my tripod out so this was handheld).

I remember what I felt when I took this picture. This juvenile bald eagle took off and gave me a stare as it opened its wings right before flying right over my head on a rainy day in Alaska. I was overwhelmed by its massive wingspan and I had chills all over from the eye contact it gave me in flight. I had all the feels, and could only imagine what its prey would feel right before being grabbed and lifted to the sky. My buddy @timbohi asked to take a minute, he sat down in silence to take in the moment. I was almost in tears it was so overwhelming. A moment of pure beauty I will never forget.

My @nikonusa #z9 locked in on the eyes with its auto area auto focus on bird tracking. I have this setting set up on my function1 button, so I can change over quickly when a bird takes off.

On 10/10 by the time I made it to the altitude in Rocky Mountain National Park (really 10/11 by that time) what I photographed wasn’t the Aurora that I have seen a few times in the past. Instead what we saw and photographed was a SAR arc. A Stable Aurora Red arc is a phenomenon caused by excitation of atomic oxygen by hot electrons. How cool is that? The sky is beyond fascinating and constantly a reminder of the sublime. We could just faintly see it with our eyes, while my camera picked up a lot more detail.
