I remember ages ago when I met Katie for the first time. We met at a tea shop (that had bubble tea, my fav) and I remember thinking “I could just hang out with Katie all day”. We had so much to talk about. Andy is studying engineering at Georgia Tech (where I studied electrical engineering back before photography consumed me), and they were both planning on moving to Atlanta. I love Atlanta, and did live there most of my life.

The wedding day was so perfect. Katie looked stunning and was glowing. I remember when she saw herself in her dress with her make-up and hair for the first time in the mirror, she very quietly mumbled to herself “wow, I look beautiful” and she smiled. It had me tearing up, a feeling and a thought that I have always hoped every bride has when they see themselves for the first time. When Andy saw her for the first time, he cried, then she cried, then family members cried, it was a beautiful happy mess.

Katie and I had run around her venue a few days before the wedding and Katie found a tree that had a bright red heart painted on it. We decided that was the perfect place to do the pictures of her and Andy following the ceremony. So right after the ceremony we ran around the woods and got some of my favorite pictures ever. Anyone that knows me knows that I just love running around the woods. It was a perfect day and a perfect wedding.

I look forward to hanging out with you two in Atlanta!

I am so excited and honored to have Kodak pick one of my images for their giant display in TIMES SQUARE! My wonderful print lab, myphotopipe nominated me for this award. I have been using myphotopipe for almost 15 years now, and it means the world to me that they nominated me. The Kodak site says “The images here and on Kodak’s outdoor, video display at Times Square, in New York City, demonstrate the high quality you can expect from professional photographers – masters at capturing life’s milestones – big and small.”

The fact that Kodak wants to use one of my images for their Times Square jumbo screen, really makes me smile! Looks like I will be heading up to Times Square sometime soon to see one of my images bigger then I could have ever imagined 🙂

More from Kodak “The compelling images are meant to inspire the millions of passerby in Time Square to consider using the services of professional photographers to capture their own important life events… The Times Square campaign is part of Kodak Professional’s on-going message, ‘Connect with Pro Quality,’ whereby consumers benefit greatly when they employ pro photographers…”.

So I can now say “Kristi Odom photography, as seen in Times Square!”

Who knew Casey was also the master of self takes.

This post was brought to you by the number 2. Why you ask? Let me explain. I am stubborn and feel like I can learn most things on my own. Going to Georgia Tech for engineering taught me, if there is a problem you can figure it out. Solutions are easy to come by if you spend the time. So for 2 years I have been working on leaning cinematography. I have spent hours playing with the video on my cameras, and to be honest, I was never happy with the results. One day I finally gave in. Video was just not coming how I wanted it to. I needed help, and believe me it kind of hurt to finally say and admit that. I finally turned to some of my favorite wedding cinematographers, Mindcastle studios and signed up for a private 2 day workshop. Mindcastle not only displayed a very technical style of shooting, but they had a voice in their video, they had a style. Not something I had seen many other wedding cinematographers achieve. Plus they like to really play with video. Recently they have been doing shoots with Canon that involved a remote control helicopter camera! I am still kind of geeking out about that!

So the day after my birthday on March 30th, Mindcastle came to start my one2one workshop(all the way from Seattle Washington). I will say with all honesty that I learned more in 2 days then I had in 2 years about video. It was well beyond anything I could have imagined. I am super excited to see what I can do with my new knowledge. I can’t wait to offer cinematography to my 2012 clients, and practice more and more this year. I have some fun ideas and can’t wait to develop my own video style. I am very happy that I was able to ask for help and work with people that truly have perfected their work. Not only did they teach me the technical, but they helped me think about using cinematography as a tool to produce stories.

So a big thank you to Danielle and Casey from Mindcastle for sharing your knowledge and being such an inspirations. A big thank you to 2 and Alek for being the best models ever. I hope you enjoy my very first piece of cinematography!

Nureya and Eugene
St Thomas
US Virgin Islands

Words can not describe this wedding! I can try though… This wedding was breathtaking and beyond amazing. I was crazy excited when I got the call to shoot in such a beautiful location, and such an amazing couple. Eugene plays in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was drafted 1st pick in 2009. I looked him up and saw some crazy tackles from this 309lb offensive tackle, I remember saying, I better not mess this one up! When I finally met Eugene and Nuyera, the first thing I noticed was how nice and genuine they are. Not only are they both successful people, but they are so humble and nice to everyone. They both light up a room, and can make others smile. They are both so in love, and so happy to be around each other. It was crazy beautiful to see.

A big thank you to the all the vendors that put this beautiful wedding together.
Wedding Planners Extrodinare, Chuck Ivins and Shanika B
Wedding Design and Florals, Liberated Lotus
Venue, St Peter Greathouse
A big thank you to my crazy talented second shooter Thu for traveling all the way to St Thomas to cover this event with me.
