I decided that this year I am entering competitions for wedding photography. I entered my first one ever through WPPI and was so excited to win Three Accolades of Excellence! Here is what the press release says:

“Kristi Odom of Reston, VA, has received special honors in the WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS INTERNATIONAL 2010 WPPI 2nd Half International Photography Competition. Designed to recognize outstanding photographers…

“Cliffs of Moher” & “Untitled” each received an Accolade of Excellence in the Bride and Groom Together category. “Untitled” received an Accolade of Excellence in the Wedding Details category. Odom competed against an international field of photographers to win such honors….

The 2010 competition included 1867 images in 17 different categories submitted by
photographers from all over the world. For more information please visit www.wppionline.com/competition.aspx”

I owe a huge thank you to Chris Rioux and Walter Van Dusen for helping me choose and prep images for the competition. It means the world to me!

I hope you like!

Sara and Matt
November 24th, 2010
The Solarium
Decatur Georgia

Words can not describe how much I love this couple. I met Matt 6 years ago while I was working at REI (yes the same REI I met my husband at), and he always had a contagious love for life and being outdoors. So easy going and fun to talk to, plus he could do our lunch runs in record breaking time. I was so happy when I met Sara, because cool people need to find cool people and Sara is perfect, and so similar to Matt. Shooting the wedding felt so much like home for me. One thing that really struck me, is the fact that I wasn’t called the photographer. All the family, friends, everyone called me Kristi. Which at first I almost didn’t respond, I was thinking “is there a bridesmaid with my name”, then I realized that they were talking to me! I felt like a guest, I had a seat amongst the guests, I had a coaster made with my name on it (literally with my name custom printed). Hey it is the little things, and I really didn’t feel like I was shooting a wedding, I felt like I was watching two awesome people, two friends get married! It was beautiful.

I do share something with this couple, all of us love Foster Falls, a climbing area close to the Georgia border with Tennessee. We decided to do some pictures up there a few weeks after the wedding. Matt and Sarah are troopers, and we ran around the cliffs in the cold. We even found a little cave area with ice all around. It was an amazing shoot, and I had some crazy fun with the pictures!

So thank you two for being awesome, and thanks to Kristin Bowen who helped me shoot the wedding (Kristin is the talented daughter of one of my other REI coworkers, small world…).
